I'm pretty cool with mega evolutions. I've always wanted to see a more awesome looking lucario and blaziken.

It's rather...interesting, and just screams Digimon. (I believe Digilution can only occur during battle...sound familiar? Gotta love Nintendo's "originality.")
Nonetheless, I'm quite excited for Pokemon X/Y.

I think Megalutions just screams "Marketing tactiqe" a desperate one. Think about it. Garchomp is ALREADY one of the top poke'mon. Now it EVOLVES?! Won't be surprised if it rivals any legendary it didn't already rival or surpass. And how do you make a poke'mon megevolve? Do you trade, take it to a place, give it an item? If it involves leveling up, bad idea. If Garchomp needed to go up more levels to megevolve, a player would typically be finished with the game's main plot, which would only mean a Mega Garchomp is for competative battles between friends or over wi-fi, not in-game play.

Dear ?Draco? and anyone else wondering, Megaevolutions are not a part of a pokémon's evolutionary line. They are a temporary state of power that can be used in battle to enhance stats and give better moves. The way to activate them is to have a pokémon at it's final evolutionary stage hold a megastone of its species and to have a high friendship bond with the trainer who must be wearing the mega ring. It can only be activated once per battle to add power for a few turns and just deepens the games strategy. STAY CALM PEOPLE!

It'll corrupt the game with unjust balance.

I find that unlikely. It's not like only side has it. The game may make sure that you have the ability to use it by the time it starts to implement it into the story. The have a promotional Torchic with a mega stone for you to get ready with. If you don't have it by the time someone else does than it's your fault. And yes, there will possibly and option to turn it off in competitive multiplayer. I see stuff like this implemented in many other games and work just fine. Yes, it's suppose to turn the tide of battle but how good one acts it and how the other side reacts (like using a type advantage, a "wall" pokemon, or mega evolve themselves) will determine if it's a devestating hit to an utter waste of the benefit. That's why I said it deepens the strategy. How "unfair" it is depends on thought.

That is NOT what I meant. I meant unbalance as in a statistical way. Garchomp doesn't need a megalution, Persian does. Garchomp strong, Persian weak. Get it?

You're forgetting garchomp's fatal weakness...
"Aha! Look at my mega evolved garchomp! Whatcha gonna do now?" *uses ice attack that one hit KOs garchomp* "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"
I stand by my case of "thought"
Who knows, maybe mega evolution make a pokemon's type weakness more vulnerable. Maybe some pokemon mega evolutions are more boosted than other pokemon evolutions.

@solarknight you know that mega evolutions don't permanentaly change a pokemon right? You can use it on the pokemon you know and love. Apparently, you can only do it to the pokemon you know and love. It's been leaked that no gen VI pokemon can mega evolve. Why can the pokemon in the region where mega evolutions are discovered can't mega evolve? They say it'sbecause they "wanna show off all the pokemon we grew up with in an official new way.". Honestly, I think it's because the developers wanna decrease their workload.
