I watched like one episode of MLP around a year or two ago just to see what it's like. It's not bad, but it isn't for me.

I was a brony at some point, but the a lot of people in the fandom act like it's a religon, which drove me away. Plus there's nothing spectacular about the shows. I think I was on episode 9 when I stopped watching. And don't get me started on those people who think "haters are just jealous." In fact, it was meant to be a kids show and it was always meant to be a kids show.

sword art online is BBBBBBAAAADDD
MLP was a show hyped by the media to start something. If it wasn't for the media then no one would know about mlp at all or that soon enough.

Mm, I liked Sword Art Online, but it isn't the best anime. I really REALLY liked Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Angel Beats, Black Rock Shooter, more...

It wasn't the media that gave MLP attention. :/ I've seen every episode of the show (except for some of the newest ones) and I think it's great. Entertaining characters and plots, good writing. It's not perfect, there are some pretty painful episodes.

It's target demographic is little girls. Of course it's going to have painful episodes for developed brain muscles but at least the creators know neck-bearded guys are watching so they are now putting in stuff for them. Sometime they go overboard:

Yes it's designed for girls (exactly what age is a subject for debate, I'd say 7-12ish) but the point is that "for girls" doesn't automatically mean "bad." That's what the brony movement is about. When girls like guy things (superheroes, action movies) nobody bats an eye. Bronies are about enjoying whatever you enjoy regardless of the target audience. And really it's a good show.
As for the painful episodes, I'm mostly talking about Dragon Quest, my personal least favorite episode. It tries to make Spike a more mature and interesting character by having him make big dramatic (overly dramatic) decisions, acting precocious, and crying too much. A Season 4 episode that constantly made me cringe was Power Ponies: apropos of nothing, the ponies are in a magic comic book battling a supervillain. To me it really clashes with the ideas of magic in the series, and for what purpose? To make a superhero episode. And the action wasn't even very good.

That's what the brony movement is about. I thought the brony movement was about was to showcase the rapid decrees of testosterone there is in the world, foreshadowing a time where it becomes an extremely rare chemical that will be warred over, through methods such as close quarters slap fighting, yelling b**** a lot, and sad usage of firearms, so that their sides will have actual soldiers, spiraling down to premature use of nuclear warfare, decimating the earth into a radioactive wasteland in which all of the remaining humanity will die out due to their mentality that mutant meat is too "icky". In all seriousness, MLP:FIM is not a bad show and it needs no movement to show it. It's has good characters, well written stories, charm, adventure, and good morals. I understand getting pulled in and even possibly becoming a fan of it. My real problem with the bronies is how far they take it. Do you think that these good morals will make ii into the internet dweller's psyche? A quick browse of /mlp/ debunks that hope. This funny sketch from college humor pretty muck sums up what I think "too far" means. too far: weeaboo for little girl ponies...
